Giving Thanks this Christmas

A week ago, my baby had her sixteenth birthday party and we had a lot of food left over from the catering.  I didn't want to throw the food away so I put the food on craigslist for free as a long shot.  The response to the food shocked me, so as we all sit down to eat, think about folks going to bed hungry and donate to food kitchen when you can.

Have a wonderful Christmas!

Dream's Sixteen!!

Hi Everyone, I know it's been a while since I posted anything, but I've been very busy on a very important project.
My daughter Dream is turning sixteen today.  Dream is really a dream daughter, I'm very proud to be her mother.

I threw her a sweet sixteen party this past weekend and I DIYed everything from centerpieces to party favors, so I had to take a little break from home decor.  I can now truly appreciate why people hire party planners.

Here's my baby in her first dress.

And her second dress, this dress was only $10 from H&M. Can you believe that price?

The candy bar was a hit, I made all the labels for the candy jars, water bottles and favor boxes.
And my twin sister spent numerous hours on the cake, it came out fabulous!

I also DIYed the decor, the candles above were made from $1 prayer candles and vellum paper and the centerpieces were made from silk flowers and a foam ball.

Now, I'm going to get a little rest and then start preparing for Christmas.  No rest for the weary.

Hotel Inspiration - Banyan Tree Samui

I love a well designed hotel and The Banyan Tree Samui delivers high design in spades.  It's truly eye candy.

OMG, wouldn't you love to wake up to this everyday?

This room is has minimum color but the use of texture gives it amazing impact on the senses.

Another shot of this beautiful room.  Isn't it fabulous?

My Mom Cave

Kate at Centsational Girl is having a link party for Mom Caves.
My mom cave is definitely my living room.  Every time I pass by it I smile and more importantly it holds my romance novels.  Yup I love a good romance novel, after reading serious stuff all day and helping with high school, a romance novel is best thing for me.  There is nothing better then snuggling in my chair with a blanket reading a book and watching rain fall outside.
I love my mom cave, hope you do too.
I'm linking this to Centsational Girl, please hop over to see all the caves.

 This makes me smile.

See all my lovely novels.

That's the chair I love to snuggle in.

Living Room Mood Board

Well, purple is all the rage again.  I'm sure the color is probably called wine or something else but it will always be purple to me.  I've created a room using purple as an accent color, I think it would fabulous with a citrine colored wallpaper.

Would you use a deep wine color on your walls?

Living Room Mood Board

Here's a mood board I did for a friend of mine, she wanted a room with blue accents.
I've combined blue, gray, cream, browns and some black. The sofa in the mood board is her own.

Luxe for Less - Mirror

So, if you don't know it yet, I love a good mirror, here's a couple of mirrors that would look good in any room.

Mirror above is sold at Williams - Sonoma Home for $195 on Sale.

Isn't it the sunburst mirror behind the sofa fabulous, and at $199 from Crate and Barrel the price isn't bad at all.

But why spend $199 when you can buy a comparable one for $69.99 from good old Target.

Happy shopping.

Good Finds

I was in my local Target shopping and noticed that they're putting all their college stuff on clearance at 75% off.  Where can you get a comforter for $5?  So if you have children or a college student these are great buys especially since XL Twin sheets can be difficult to find.   The sizes range from twin to queen.
So run over to your local Target to see if they are on sale there too. Happy Shopping!

A Bump in the Road

I know this blog is mainly dedicated to home decor and design and I try to keep my ramblings to myself but I felt compelled to share.

Three years ago my son had a health scare, one of those scary health issues that makes your heart pound, cause you sleepless nights and have you crying in shower.  It started out innocent enough, with a throat ache which I thought was strep but after we went to the pediatrician's office, right away I knew something was up when three doctors converged on the room.  You know something is wrong with a doctors are readily available because they love to make you wait.  The thing that bothers me to this day that they didn't mention anything they just made me an appointment with a specialist saying they just wanted a throat specialist to take a look at it.

I can't tell you how my heart sunk when a drove to the specialist and pulled in the parking lot and saw a HUGE sign on the building indicating it was a Cancer Center. It still gives me the willies just thinking about how I felt walking into that building and I know my little man was scared as heck too when he saw the sign on the building.  After numerous blood tests and MRIs we found out that it was mono.  We still don't know where the heck he picked mono from but we were so happy to have skirted the big C we didn't care.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, my son woke up at 4 am to massive headache. Normally a headache wouldn't bother me but he said that he couldn't see out of one eye.  That scared the crap out of me.  Of course my mind went back the Cancer scare we had three years and started it racing to crazy scenarios like what if it wasn't mono and something serious and the doctors missed something three years ago?  After numerous tests in the past couple of weeks he was diagnosed with severe migraine headaches. Phew, Thank God.

So I'm thankful of my blessings but my heart goes out to all the moms and dads who are dealing with seriously sick children.  While I only had a tiny bump in the road and a month of sleepless nights, there are many folks out there who will lose their precious babies to illness.  Please keep all these families in your prayers, you can also make a donation to St. Judes here.

We're now back to homework and hair issues.

My little man started the summer like this:

My New Crushes

T.G.I.F everyone, it's been a long week and I'm looking forward to the weekend.

Here's some eye candy for you, I'm loving these items.

This Mademoiselle Chair by Kartell is a little pricey, ok a lot pricey but it's so fantastic.
It would look great in any room.

These cubes are beautiful, I could so see them in a party setting with some lights inside or as coffee tables.

Don't you just love Zebra print?  This Zebra Print Leather Chair is a great mix of materials.
The mix of  wood, black leather and zebra print created a timeless piece of furniture.

This upholstered bed with abstract floral motif is fabulous with capital F.  Talk about a statement piece.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I have a Factory Outlet about an hour from me, I was shopping and wandered into the Restoration Outlet when I scored the following deals.

My first score was this entertainment center, it's made up solid hardwoods, the normal price was well over $1,200 and I got it for $100.

I needed a bookcase because I love cheesy romance novels.  Yup I said it.
This is going to be great place to store them along with my television.

My next score was this cedar lined dresser, it was originally $1,750 and I purchased it for $160.
Once I polish it up its going to be fabulous.

Look at those dovetail drawers, I love a well made piece of furniture.

I thought I scored great deals what do you think?

Design Inspiration - Nesting Newbies

Have you all seen the current issue of Nesting Newbies, if not head over there right now.
Here's a couple of pictures in the current magazine from designer Emily LaMarque.

This back splash is so HOT, combined with Ikea cabinets it gives the kitchen a really expensive look.

Ghost chairs, capiz shell chandelier, mosaic tiles all work in design harmony. Love this room!

Now this is a fabulous TV room, the pink couch is so unexpected but the pink and gray works so well together that the room is expensive and chic at the same time.

Hotel Inspiration - Hotel Allegro

I know it's been a couple of weeks since I posted, but life has been super busy especially during the first month of school.  Getting back into the school routine takes some time.   Since we're all getting back on grind today, I thought I would share some hotel inspiration with you.

Hotel Allegro's use of color is phenomenal; it makes you want to go out and buy paint and/or some colorful fabric.  lol

Wouldn't you love to host a cocktail party in this room?  You wouldn't think that these colors would work together but they do and are fabulous.

Wow, isn't the blue velvet genius?

I can definitely see myself hanging out here with kids and adults.  It's a great mix of masculine and feminine  elements.

What can I say about this room, it surely inspires a gasp; love the mix of black and white stripes with the red walls and white leather sofas.

Anyone up for a trip to Chicago?

Do you still have that fire burning in your gut?

The following video was sent to me to share with my 13 year old son.  He just started high school and is not as motivated as he could be.  After watching the video I thought that this message could apply to any age so I'm sharing.

Hopefully this video will get your fire burning again.

Design Inspiration - Alisberg Parker Associates

Realtors always insist that the outside and inside of your house must be cohesive.

Well, this house below renovated by folks at Alisberg Parker Architects blows that belief out of the water.

The front of the house looks unassuming doesn't it?

The joke is on us since inside holds this stunning foyer.

The media room is to die for, hey I spy four area rugs

This great room is scrumptious

Are there words to describe this kitchen?

Do you see the chandeliers in the cabana, wow it just keeps getting better and better.

Do you see the water flowing over the rocks on the side of the pool?
Awwww, eye candy in it's finest form.

Which room do you like the best?

I took a quick trip to CB2 today during lunch and the store did not disappoint.

I even got parking in the front of the store. Yup, I took this photo from my car.  Good times, good times.

Here's some eye candy to finish your Monday...

This white slab dining table is delicious

This acrylic table paired with accessories is light, airy and a conversation piece.

Accessories are plenty, chic and inexpensive; don't you love these hourglasses?

Wow, isn't this display fabulous?  It's made up of a coffee table, four mirrors, vases, glass balls and pendants.
Can you believe each pendant is only $50?
